I lived there for a couple of years.
In Cairo, don't miss El Abd bakery on Talat Harb street. Wonderful ice cream and deserts. Also, you can't miss Abu El-Sid in Zamalek. It's on a side street with a tiny sign and MASSIVE doors. They actually have a website ( www.abouelsid.com/ )
There is the standard tourist route of Cairo => Luxor => Aswan. You can't go wrong doing that. And Dahab is nice.
But really, do you have any specific questions. Also, what type of traveling are you planning on doing? Backpacker or more upscale? -

Re: Off to Egypt
Wed, May 6, 2009 - 5:39 AMIf you would like to tread off the beaten path in Egypt, it's gonna be pretty tough, still, after exploring the landmarks, you can start exploring the Bent Pyramid, the red pyramid, step pyramid at Djoser, pyramid of Amenemhet III at Hawarra, the pyramid at Meidum, the pyramid of Senusret II and also the Egyptian labyrinth. Have fun...
