so there's a total eclipse of the sun in 2009 on july 22nd in china. it's going to go through shanghai and across the middle of the country. unfortunately july is rainy season so chances of it being visible are not that great.
any china travellers in here?
any recommendations on best visibility options in july in central china? any great spots to see it? best to stay toward the coast or head inland in terms of visibility?
here's a map

Re: 2009 eclipse in china
Tue, January 20, 2009 - 3:52 PMThe Griffith Observatory in LA is sponsoring 2 trips to China to see the eclipse. Maybe reviewing the itineraries will get you started:

Re: 2009 eclipse in china
Wed, January 21, 2009 - 10:44 AMyeah, i've looked at a few of those.
i'm thinking of seeing it on top of mount jiuhua near shanghai.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiuhuashan
has anyone been there? how do you typically get to mountains in china? haha. i understand that not speaking chinese will be a very large barrier?
since it's the eclipse i'm thinking of organizing transportation and possibly housing now. any suggestions on how best to do that?
